But I want it now!

So after three weeks of eating (sorta) right and working out, I'm down nine pounds.

Naturally, I'm despondent. I can't help but think that the folks on The Biggest Loser would have been down . . . I don't know . . . like 40 pounds in that amount of time.

Yes, I'm losing slowly which is better, yadda, yadda, yadda. But I want to be skinny now. Right now, this instant.

My former shrink saw unreasonable expectations as one of my problems. Gee, you think?

Anyway, we'll see how this goes.

OK I just flashed back to Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (the older one with Gene Wylder)......your new name is Veruca Salt ("I want the goose that lays the golden eggs daddy and I want her NOW")..... :)

Nine pounds in three weeks is GREAT! The experts say you should only lose 1-2 pounds per week. So, you're 3-6 pounds ahead of where you should be. BRAVO, you! Especially bravo on working out! Watch you're impatient tendencies. Remember the tortoise, not the hare, won the race.

Nine pounds in three weeks is good progress. Congrats, keep at it. If you were on The Biggest Loser, you would be eating grass and oats all the time, so patience and real food is better.

I so understand where you are today. I find dieting to be an insurmountable problem. It's going to take forever and I'll never be able to eat ice cream again. I also find my friends who are skinny are the worst at encouraging because they have no idea what it's like to eat "healthy" for three weeks and only see 9lbs off the scale. Three weeks is an eternity and should be 25 or 30 pounds.

That being said, your doing great. Keep up the good work.

Best of luck with it, Byrne!

Well, it's going in the right direction!! Well done on that, and don't worry... if you keep working out you'll get there.

You're well ahead of me at any rate, I haven't seen the inside of a gym in the best part of 6 months. :)

9 lbs is great...congrats!

the thing with the biggest loser is that they are locked up and spend 20 hours a day working out and they eat a few strands of mung beans for an occasional meal. anyone would lose 25 lbs doing that...

What Wanton Wonton said. Losing 40 lbs. in three weeks is neither healthy nor sane.

Don't forget that while you've lost weight from eating right and working out, you've probably put some muscle weight on from working out. Yes, even in the short time of three weeks. Therefore you've probably lost a little bit more than nine pounds, but traded some of it out for "good weight".

The first month is the most difficult when you're getting back into a workout strategy.

My trainer always says that you shouldn't focus on what you weigh, versus how better YOU think you feel and look as things progress.

Don't focus on weight loss. Focus on getting into a regimen of eating right and working out to get fit.

Although I know it sounds crazy to some people trying to lose weight, don't forget to eat enough and eat regularly. Your body won't work as efficiently in losing fat and gaining muscle if you don't keep it fueled. Starving yourself is a no-no.

Finally... water water water. It helps lower your body fat percentage, it keeps your stamina up, and it's just darn good for you in too many ways to list here.

You get all muscle bear on me, Crashie, and I'll be frakking jealous. :-)

Whoops. Didn't see Katie's post about the muscle gain/burning fat thing that I mentioned in mine. I've been going through the same thing she did. It's a good thing.

DOn't they say that losing weight at a steadier and slower pace can almost insure that the person will KEEP the weight off rather then massive amounts lost very quickly?

Anyways, good for you for what you've achieved so far.
